In continuation of the activities organized by the Senate of Burundi during the parliamentary recess of march, the Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Fabrice NKURUNZIZA, accompanied by the Minister responsible for education, visited the University of Burundi, this Monday, March 18, 2024.
This visit aimed to evaluate four of the main projects which the University of Burundi had planned for the current budget year according to the new programme budget policy.
After discussions with officials from the University of Burundi, it was noted that only one project among the four is currently being implemented. Following technical problems within OBUHA which was responsible for executing these projects, the other three were postponed for the following financial year, they said.
The Second Deputy Speaker of the Senate took this opportunity to ask these officials to develop, in the future, feasible projects according to available funds. He also thanked the University of Burundi for its quality of teaching and for having welcomed two promotions both for the current academic year.
As for the multiple concerns of the University of Burundi, in particular the unblocking of the teachers’ pay award and the electricity problem, he indicated that the Senate is closely following the issue related to the pay award, and, as for the electricity problem, he indicated that he will discuss it with the Minister in charge of energy, and if possible assign the University its own line.
After the discussions, he then visited the premises of the University of Burundi.
