From Wednesday, November 04 until Monday; November 09, 2020, Right Honorable Emmanuel SINZOHAGERA, Senate Speaker, consecutively visited Mugongomanga, Nyabiraba, Mutambu, Kabezi, Mutimbuzi and Mubimbi communes of Bujumbura province where he met local representatives, social actors and heads of services working in these communes. The discussions focused on political and socio-economic issues.
In his message, Right Honorable SINZOHAGERA, first of all congratulated the population of these communes for having participated in all of the 2020 elections in order to elect their representatives. To this end, he called on the representatives to behave like real fathers of families given that the country is run by a responsible government.
During these meetings, the Senate Speaker insisted on the security situation where he reminded everyone to stay watchful so as not to be surprised by the troublemakers. He also urged the population to fight idleness and theft in households.
Among the pieces of advice given to the inhabitants of these communes are the raise of the population’s awareness about joining cooperatives to increase production, environment protection by destroying eucalyptus trees planted near water sources, promotion of education, construction of chiefs of villages’ offices, improvement of school results and fight against cohabitation.
In addition, Right Honorable SINZOHAGERA reminded them to continue to protect themselves against Covid-19 by respecting hygiene measures. He invited the administrative authorities to closely monitor the management of funds granted to cooperatives and ensure that these funds are allocated to the projects submitted. In this regard, he asked young people to prepare good development projects in order to benefit from loans from the Youth Investment Bank (BIJE).
In Kabezi commune, he advised the inhabitants of this locality to protect the Lake Tanganyika by avoiding dumping waste there, not practice prohibited fishing and fight fraud and misappropriation of communal taxes.
During the meeting held in Mutimbuzi commune, Right Honorable SINZOHAGERA advised the faithful of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and many others, to remain calm and sit together in case of disputes, and be aware that they are called to serve the Almighty.
During interventions, participants discussed, among other things, the lack of electricity, justice–related issues as well as the Astrida road which is in a dilapidated state while it facilitated the movement of goods and persons.
They also pointed out challenges related to the galloping demography, electric wires which endanger human lives, monitoring of the management of funds allocated to communes each year, deterioration of public infrastructure, increase in the cement price, lack of school material in some schools, and the issue of the mutual insurance company for civil servants (MFP) which does not satisfy its affiliated members.
They also demanded that the TRC come to carry out investigations in Gasarara village, Nyabiraba commune to establish the truth about the death of numerous people as it is done in other localities of the country.
To all these concerns, the Senate Speaker provided related answers and said that other issues will be resolved by competent bodies.
