In the afternoon of November 23, 2021, Right Honorable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, Speaker of the Senate, flew to Madrid, Spain, where he led a delegation of parliamentarians who represent the country in the meetings of the 143rd Inter-Parliamentary Assembly whose central theme is “Overcoming divisions and strengthening cohesion to meet the current challenges of democracy”.
During the proceedings of that Assembly, participants will have the opportunity to discuss legislation around the world in the fight against online sexual exploitation of children; and will also discuss the impact of climate change on natural resources by trying to analyze together how Parliaments can ensure that water is accessible and available to all.
This 143rd Inter-Parliamentary Assembly will also be an opportunity to deal with issues related to the role of Parliament in the fight against the risks of embezzlement in the transfer of arms.
During his stay in Spain, the Speaker of the Senate will take that opportunity to meet the heads of delegations from other countries to discuss the strengthening of cooperation relations between the Parliaments of those countries and that of Burundi.
