On this Thursday, September 5, 2024, while he was returning from from a work mission in Indonesia, the Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, Speaker of the Senate of Burundi, payed a visit to the Permanent Mission of Burundi in Addis Ababa, to realize the progress of the building of the premises which will house the Chancellery and the diplomats’ homes.
During this visit, the Senate Speaker was guided by Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe, in charge of the project. The latter showed him the progress made on the site made up of two buildings, one of two storeys, already completed and which serves as the Ambassador’s residence, and another of seven storeys including an underground car park, which will house the chancellery and the diplomats’ apartments. In fact, two first floors will be intended for administrative offices, while the four upper levels will accommodate the apartments of the embassy officials. These modern infrastructures aim to improve the working and living conditions of Burundian diplomatic staff in Ethiopia.
The Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera was very satisfied with the progress of the work and expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Nyamitwe for his leadership and dedication. He underlined the importance of this project, not only for the effectiveness of the diplomatic mission, but also for the visibility of Burundi on the international scene. This new embassy symbolizes the country’s desire to improve its bilateral relations and strengthen its presence in Africa.
Let us recall that the plot on which the embassy is being built was allocated to the Burundian diplomatic mission by the Ethiopian authorities, and the building activity began in 2010. However, the project took several years to come to fruition, due to various obstacles. Today, as noted by the Speaker of Burundi Senate, the completion of the work seems closer than ever.
We will check your location suggestion and release it as soon as possible.
