From 16 to 18 June 2022, the Right Honourable Emmanuel Sinzohagera, Speaker of the Senate, along with his wife, his two deputies and senators, joined the presidential couple, many state personalities and a huge population that came from different parts of the country, to praise the Almighty on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the accession to power of the President of the Republic, H.E Evariste Ndayishimiye.
The festivities of the first day started with a mass celebrated at Muramvya Catholic Church Parish by the Archbishop of Bujumbura, Mgr Gervais Banshimiyubusa. In his homily, Mgr Banshimiyubusa congratulated the Head of State for his two years at the head of the country. “This is an opportunity to praise the Lord for the benefits which we received during the two years”, he said.
In addition, Mgr Banshimiyubusa also implored the Almighty to continue to help the President of the Republic to carry out other good achievements during the third year of his power.
The three days of the thanksgiving prayer at the Royal Stadium in Muramvya were characterised by an atmosphere of joy and praise of God as well as teachings.
At the closing of this national prayer of thanksgiving, the Head of State, H.E. Evariste Ndayishimiye, thanked the Lord who helped him to accomplish his mission of leading Burundi. He also thanked the authorities who helped him in the accomplishment of his noble mission.
The Head of State was also pleased to note that the slogan launched at the beginning of his mandate, saying that “Let every mouth have food and every pocket have money” is being converted into action. Burundians are working in cooperatives, pooling their land to increase production and generate surpluses for marketing,” he said.
For the third year of his mandate, the President of the Republic called on all Burundians to fight poverty. “It is a fight that requires a lot of energy, perseverance and self-sacrifice,” he indicated.
H.E. Evariste Ndayishimiye also called on leaders at different levels to serve as models in the fight against poverty. He recommended the authorities to leave the offices, approach the population and supervise them in their different activities.
However, he promised to stay near the population, sharing their concerns in order to find solutions to their problems with them.
