On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, the Senate began discussions with elected officials and local administrators from all communes. These discussions focused on the Senate’s oversight of local authorities and decentralization policy.
Accompanied by the Governor of Bujumbura Province, the Speaker of the Senate, the Right Honourable Gervais NDIRAKOBUCA, met with communal councillors and department heads of Cibitoke Commune, where he highlighted some of the population’s concerns.
As for the two Deputy Speakers of the Senate, Honourable Générose NGENDANGANYA and Clotilde KAMPIMBARE, they met with elected officials from Gitega commune and province, as well as those from Rutana commune in Burunga province.
These meetings were also an opportunity for them to listen to the population’s grievances.
The other communes where such meetings took place were Ngozi, Mukaza, Musongati, and Gisagara.
The discussions were led by senators, who also listened to the grievances expressed by these communal councillors and department heads.
On the sidelines of his visit in Cibitoke commune, the Speaker of the Senate distributed notebooks to 150 schoolchildren from ECOFO Karurama I, Karurama II, and Mukingiro.
