On 05 and 06 July 2023, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate, Honourable Dénise Ndadaye, visited the communes of Muramvya province where she held meetings, one in Kiganda commune for local representatives of Rutegama, Kiganda and Mbuye communes, and another in Bukeye communes with those of Muramvya and Bukeye communes.
Honourable Dénise Ndadaye asked those representatives to encourage the population to set up vegetable gardens, prepare tree nurseries, assign duties to children in holidays, dig and rehabilitate contour lines, and collect waste to make compost.
The 1st Deputy Speaker of the Senate also urged them to keep their households and workplaces clean, and to think in advance about article 289 of the Constitution of Burundi.
Other concerns raised by the population included a disease which has attacked wheat seedlings, low-quality agricultural inputs affecting the growth of tea plants, the road being soiled by passers-by relieving themselves all over the place, and a desire for easier access to vegetable seeds.
After the meeting on 05 July in Kiganda commune, the First Deputy Speaker of the Senate visited a tourist site where the Treaty of Kiganda was signed between King Mwezi Gisabo and the Belgians.
